Overview: I have used Hot Stix Golf in the past and have always appreciated the quality of their work. Their attention to detail is second to none and they ARE THE EXPERTS in the industry. I obviously was only asking for a very small portion of what they do but, as always, they were eager to fulfill my request. Here's a little background on that request. I received a set of Limited Edition Black Titleist AP3s and wasn't getting the most out of the clubs. After talking to the team at KBS Golf Shafts they sent me a set of Limited Edition C-Taper Lite Black shafts (4-AW) to give a try. Now, like a kid at Christmas I wanted everything set up now so I could tee it up in 2 days at our friendly weekend skins game. I began calling around to a few shops near me and they all were happy to do it but wanted 3-4 days to complete the work. I talked to "Fergie" Chris Ferguson at Hot Stix and he said bring them up and we will do our best to get them done for you. I must point out others had said similar things but I knew the work would be perfect at Hot Stix. So, I drove by 4 other shops and delivered everything to their team. More on the outcome in a bit..

From Hot Stix: Fitting Services And What To Expect

ALL FITTINGS ARE PERFORMED OUTDOORS TO SEE TRUE BALL FLIGHT AND FEEL TURF INTERACTION

Prior to the fitting the player will receive a questionnaire about their game and what their goals are. Upon arrival we will do a quick evaluation of their current equipment (loft, lie, length, shaft frequency and swing weight). During this time the player will be able to warm up on the range. When the fitting begins, we will have the player hit a series of shots to gather data on Trackman and determine baselines for the players swing and tendencies. At this time the player will then test numerous shaft and head combinations until the proper fit and set make-up is met. Measurements for club length, lie angle, grip size and weight will also be taken. Upon completion of the fitting the player will receive a detailed analysis of the fitted equipment along with a price breakdown for the custom build. Since everything we do at Hot Stix Golf is 100% custom, pricing is done based on each individual manufactures component (head, shaft & grip). Purchasing the fitted equipment is coordinated through the players personal club fitter and all clubs are built to spec by Hot Stix Golf at our corporate headquarters in Arizona.

Now Back to our Review: As you can see Hot Stix Golf is serious about getting golfers fit for every club in the bag from putters to drivers. They utilize the latest technology including their own proprietary fitting software, Trackman, Foresight and even have a Golf Laboratries Inc. robot! They offer every service that the Tour Pros use to optimize their game. You really need to visit them to get the full scope of their services! Needless to say I was extremely excited and really looking forward to getting my clubs back. They removed old shafts, spined new KBS shafts, added 1/4", soft stepped them once, tipped them to maintain stiffness, added new Golf Pride MCC Grips, perfectly aligned labels and my clubs were ready to go faster than I expected! Quality Work - Excellent Service!

First up - The Range to dial in distance and get a feel for the new shaft set up. I added 6-8 yards per club (from stock shafts) and I was at my desired trajectory with every iron. These shafts are very accurate/consistent and my little draw was going where I wanted it to. This definitely has a lot to do with how Hot Stix set them up! While the range was fun I couldn't wait to hit the course to see what they do under pressure in a skins game! 

I specifically keep track of what club I hit into greens when I play. I had my 4-GW fit with these shafts and I hit 11 of 13 greens in round one! In round two much of the same hitting 12 of 14 greens with the same clubs. This is a one to three greens in regulation improvement from prior club set up. Overall after just two rounds I am extremely impressed and happy with the work performed by Hot Stix. I will have them swap out my wedge shafts next, go through a putter fitting and have them fit my woods so my entire bag is dialed in!

Cons: Not in every city but no reason why you can't plan a trip to Arizona or one of their other facilities!
